Came across this article about eight words to avoid on a resume:

Words to Never Use on a Resume

Words matter now more than ever. Make sure you communicate what you want with your target audience in mind.

Guest Blog: Plain Language Helps You and Your Business

Monday, February 6th, 2012

To help us celebrate our Sixth Anniversary, Sherry Roberts shares her writing insight as February’s Guest Blogger. Sherry owns The Roberts Group Editorial and Design, which helps businesses deliver their message in plain but powerful language.

In 2010, President Barack Obama signed the Plain Writing Act, requiring federal agencies to use “clear government communication that the public can understand and use.”

Smart businesses emphasize plain language, too. It saves time and money because it makes information-finding faster. Plain language is persuasive. No one buys what is hard to understand. Do your customers leave your Web site saying, “I still don’t know what they do?”

Writing clearly and simplifying syntax is not dumbing down language. It illuminates your message and gives it power. A few tips: 1) write to express, not impress 2) use plain, jargon-free language 3) focus on clarity and getting to the point 4) think of concise sentences and short paragraphs.

Join the plain language movement. It’s good customer service.

Facebook App for our Friends

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

You hear a lot about apps. And quite frankly, I’m still not sure how all of them work on your phone. When I heard about a different kind of app made especially for Facebook, I was intrigued.

As part of Roshini Performance Group 5-year anniversary events, we unveil our new Facebook app to our Facebook friends this week. I’m really thrilled about it and look forward to add this as a way members of the RPG community can get communication advice and insider information as well as easily communicate questions and stories with me on FB.

Feel free to check it out for yourself: www.facebook.com/roshini.rajkumar

Guest Blog: Wordiness Kills Clarity

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

I’m pleased to introduce Connie Anderson as our 5-year anniversary month’s Guest Blogger. Connie is an editor of books and business communications. Need I say more?

When I am working with a wordy writer, I think of the words of author Elmore Leonard: “I try to leave out the parts that people skip.” In my work, I’ve noticed we’ve become wordy, without being clear. That’s a quick way to lose your reader—whether in a book or important business document!

Laziness shows itself through simple words, which aren’t always the best.  For example, I “got” your report. GOT is such an ugly word. I share advice from the book Write in Style as I suggest you watch for certain words in ALL your writing. Do a search/find in anything you write and review/change them: was, do, place, put, would/could, did, had, got, realized, take/took, thought, felt, believed, only, just. These are acceptable words, but any word overused loses value.

When you sound fresh and remove overused words, your writing will improve.
