Happy Host

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Where can you find talk about cleavage, Jay Leno, Minnesota legislators, and the Special Olympics in one place?  At 12-3pm Central Time when I hosted Midday Live on WCCO Radio.  The station is conducting auditions for a new host.

I had a blast.  I hope my guests and listeners did too.  Feel free to e-mail me with your comments:  roshini@roshinimedia.com.  I’d love to hear from you.  And better yet, listen Thursday for day two.  Call in.  Your voice and opinions will be heard.  They’ll be listened to, and you may even get answers to pressing questions.  MN Speaker of the House, Margaret Anderson Kelliher, answered callers’questions about taxes, the state deficit, and who paid for her trip to watch President Obama give his address to Congress Tuesday night.  Listeners heard it in her words and got to interact with her.  An employee at a local non-profit got the chance to ask former Minnesota Viking Matt Blair business advice.  Then we gave her the opportunity to get airtime to plug her organization.

You never know what can happen on the radio.  That’s why live talk shows are so unique.  They’re real time with real people.  Some funny comments with some reality checks were the order of business when an HR professional talked about enforcing dress codes as companies deal with cleavage issues.  And of course, Neal Justin of the Minneapolis Star Tribune never lets you down with some laughs when you want to talk about media as well as comedians.  So all in all, this host is happy.  I hope you’ll listen Thursday when I’ll be back.  And if you miss the live shows or want a re-run, check out the Midday Live page at wccoradio.com to hear some podcasts from the shows.

Confessions

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

I must confess I’m hooked on VH1′s Confessions of a Teen Idol.  The show tracks several men who were once teen or young adult stars but are now basically NOT stars or even in the entertainment industry.

Confessions puts them in different situations to figure out if they should plan a comeback.  I wouldn’t call it appointment TV, but I have a rough idea of when it airs each week.  And for the last couple months, I’ve managed to see several shows.  The finale is coming up this weekend.

In the most recent episode, the Idols had to go through an audition with real casting directors.  The word that kept coming up:  authentic.  The best feedback came when the Idols were authentic to themselves or the scene or the emotions the audience would expect.  The casting directors gave thumbs down to the guys when they’d over-act or be something besides themselves.  This really gels with what’s true of all performance:  When you are authentic, you will perform well.  Anything else will take you in an unintended direction.

Valentine Wishes

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Looks do matter.  Image does count.  Words can make a difference.  Today of all days, put your best foot forward and show the ones you care about how much you care.  Even a few kind words in a few quick seconds can make someone’s day.

So don’t be shy.  Express yourself this Valentine’s Day.  Tell the people you like or love how special they are to you.  Say thanks to all the people who help make your days bright.  They say what goes around comes around.  My research shows positive energy is always rewarded.  You’ll never know how far today’s Valentine wishes will take you unless you send them.

I cannot let the day pass without thanking all the people across the country who helped Roshini Multi Media get to this day.  My company turns 3 today.

So thanks family for the love and support, thanks clients for the revenue…hee hee…and your enthusiasm for my trainings and consulting.  Thanks university students for all you teach me as I try to teach you.  Thanks to my business advisors and friends for loads of great ideas, good insight, your support and referrals.

Cheers!
