WOW! Bentley

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I just had the privilege of seeing the new 2010 Bentley Continental GTC Speed.

Twin Cities Luxury + Fashion hosted the event with Bentley Minneapolis to unveil the new car.  A swell crowd on a swell evening surrounded by fab cars…a gal’s dream.

It goes from 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds.  It got me thinking, what else goes that fast?  What else is that beautiful and that sure of itself?  Much like powerful performance, a beautiful car can say a lot.  The auto, like a great presentation moment, can provide a lot of power yet at the same time show finesse.

So yes, I am a car person, and you might call this an ode to an auto.  But the Bentley unveiling inspired me by its sheer celebration of something beautiful, powerful, and subtle.  A good performance by any standard.

Try this now, WOW! later…

Take some time to rest and have fun this Memorial Day Weekend.

The most powerful performance and best presentation moments come from a place of calm.  When you’re rested and calm inside, you deliver better.

Spotlight on Millennials

I am so happy to report how proud I am of two former students at the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  They’re doing great and making names for themselves by working with integrity.

Just had coffee with WDAY-TV Weekend Anchor Stephanie Goetz (Roshini’s Blog Guest Blogger May 5).  She looks great and sounds great.  She’s enjoying digging up stories and expanding her source list in the Fargo-Moorhead area.  And most importantly, she says she’s learning more about the details of journalism and finding creative ways to use social media in her reporting.  Bravo Steph!

Kevin Keen wrote me from Ecuador to share his latest video project.  He could have graduated last year but decided to first accept an internship with a tourism office to video profile the beauty of Ecuador.   He shares some tidbits from the experience:  “I could write a book about the work I had to do to get those 50 video clips.   It was a lot of coordinating, filming, and editing to do within four weeks.”  Kevin went on to tell me how sometimes he had to climb mountains in pouring rain with all his equipment to get “the shot.”  Check out his latest work:  http://tinyurl.com/cmezab.  Great job Kevin!

Hearing about their success and growth as people and journalists puts a big smile on my face.

Roxana Freed!

Roxana Saberi is freed in Iran.  The wait is over.  Her sentence was reduced and then suspended.  Waiting to hear when Roxana will land on US soil.

Time to rejoice!  Hope to find out from buddies in Fargo about any welcome home celebrations.

Hush Hush Documentary

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Can’t say much about it, but I can reveal I was interviewed for a documentary.   The film makers have a year to get their footage shot and edited.  That means it’ll come out in Spring 2010.  They say there’ll be a premiere party.

I was honored to be one of the people asked for an interview.  This former TV reporter always gets a little anxious when someone else is asking the questions.  I’m used to being the one doing that.

I wish Blacksmith Productions and its partners good wishes in turning out their documentary.  And that’s all I can write.
