Tip of the Day: Sleep Up

Friday, October 30th, 2009

We all go through it.  Sleep issues.  I actually tried counting backward from 99 last night because I couldn’t sleep.  Didn’t work.

This morning, I came across some ideas from Fitness Instructor Kofi Robinson.  Check ‘em out and get some rest.

Drink plenty of water.  Our bodies have very little water reserve.  Once dehydrated, the body responds as though it is experiencing stress.  Then your body produces stress hormones, which are awakening hormones.”

Exercise!  Some type of exercise or physical activity during the day would generally help you sleep during the night.  But be aware of the time of day and intensity of your training.  Sleep patterns may get disrupted after dinner. Intense exercise can increase cortisol levels making it hard to get to sleep.”

Web spotlight: Branding Matters

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Got an invite to hear brand guru David Brier speak last night.  He made some great points about showcasing your brand.  A huge take away for me dealt with differentiating between brand content and channels of communication.

He also suggests you “Surpass Expectation.”  His point can go hand in hand with my Less is More teaching if you focus on the “right” details and run with them.  Be a brand and NOT a commodity.  Check out David’s Web site:

Tip of the Day: Phone Messages

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

When you leave a voice mail for a prospect, a client, or a new friend…say your phone number in a way the person can understand it.  Think about speaking slowly, clearly, and repeating the phone number.

Do you want them to return the call?  Or, do you want the receiver to be so frustrated with your message that you never hear from them or get their business?

Ink Happens

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Many business people share their time on boards and through community service.  It’s a great way to give back but also a fantastic way to learn and make wonderful professional and personal connections.

I was recently asked to be profiled for one of the organizations I serve.  I was honored and humbled.  I share my fun ink with you:  http://bit.ly/35gTj

Meantime, I hope you consider helping organizations that matter in your world.  Here’s to finding great ways to mix the things you do without having to think twice.

Guest Blog: Wellness at Home

I am pleased to introduce Stacy Klone, a Professional Organizer who has specialties in food and food spaces.  She shares ideas to help you Present Your Best where it matters most for you and your family.

There are a few golden rules for keeping spaces organized.  Remember this:  For every one item brought into the home, two should be taken out.  Keep these thoughts in mind during cold and flu season and use this as the perfect time to clean out the medicine cabinet.

Here’s my system for safe disposal.  First, gather all unneeded or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines.  Take them out of the packaging, remove all personal identification, and dump them into a bag of undesirable substances such as kitty litter or wet coffee grounds.  Throwing the bag into the trash ensures the drugs won’t find their way into the wrong hands or into our drinking water.  Studies show that pharmaceuticals and other meds are present in our nation’s bodies of water.  They end up in drinking water because our wastewater treatment facilities are not designed to remove them.  You can also return unused or expired drugs to pharmaceutical take-back locations for safe disposal.  By following the steps above, you get an organized medicine cabinet and will help keep our water clean.
